About Dr Paul Smit

I completed my studies at Pretoria University and was accepted as a member of te fellowship of the College of surgeouns of South Africa. As well as the Fellowship of the College of Urologists of South Africa. 

Dr Smit studied medicine at the University of Pretoria and graduated in 1994. He completed his MBChB Degree at Pretoria Academic Hospital (Steve Biko) in Gauteng, South Africa. After completing his degree, he spent started as a Resident Medical Intern from December 1994 to December 1995. This was at Ngwelezana Hospital in Empangeni.

He then remained at the hospital from December 1995 to October 1996 as a Resident Medical officer.
Dr Smit then moved into private practice until 1997, when he moved to Wales in the United Kingdom. After which he proceeded to work in Birmingham, England and then returned to South Africa to start his studies in Urology at the Pretoria Academic Hospital (Steve Biko). He completed these studies in 2004.

Thus starting his own private practice in 2004. There are currently two offices of Dr Paul Smit’s practice, Netcare Linmed Hospital in Rynfield, Benoni. As well as Netcare Pretoria East Hospital in Moreleta Park, Pretoria. Dr Smit is currently serving on the Physicians Advisory Board of Linmed Hospital.

Dr Smit regularly attends Urology Congress worldwide, such as;

• Cape Town South Africa (WCE 2016)
• Barcelona Spain 2012 (World Brachytherapy Congress)
• Vienna Austria 2011 (European Urology Congress)
• Atlanta America 2009 (American Urology Congress)

My Special interests:

• Prostate Cancer screening and PSA testing.
• Prostate Cancer treatment including Robotic assisted
• Laparoscopic Prostatectomy (RALP) and Brachytherapy.
• Endourology and management of Kidney Stones, including complicated stone disease.
• Bladder cancer, Kidney cancer and other cancer of the Urinary Tract.
• Urogynaecology including female incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse.
• Male sterilisation eg. Vasectomy.
• Circumcision / Dorsal Slit.
